In this article, you'll find the Advanced Rules currently available to deploy on your Google Ads campaigns.

Think of this catalog as a starting point. These rules have been built from real client requests to prevent unnecessary spend and flag unusual activity, but they are fully customizable. We regularly update this framework and can build entirely new, tailored rule solutions based on what your team needs to succeed.

Want to activate a rule or design a completely new one? Reach out to your adnomaly representative, and we’ll set it up for you.

If you'd like to review the available standard rules for your DSP, please refer to the Google Ads Standard Rule Catalog.

The table below outlines each rule's scope, alert conditions, and real-life scenarios. For information on the advanced rules, refer to the rule catalog table below.

Rule Name

Rule Description

Practical Example

GEO Exclusion

Monitors targeted location parameters to ensure mandatory negative geographic exclusions are actively applied to the campaign.

A campaign is configured without the required geographic exclusion lists, allowing ads to be delivered in regions that should be excluded. The rule detects the missing exclusions and flags the campaign for review.

GEO Targeting Goal

Validates that the active location targeting objective matches the advertiser’s historical targeting strategy (e.g., target people "In" vs "Interested in").

A campaign is configured to target users interested in a location instead of users physically present there, causing ads to be delivered outside the intended geographic market. The rule detects the targeting goal mismatch and flags the configuration.

Google Display Network

Monitors targeting inventory distribution channels to ensure that the Google Display Network (GDN) is never selected within the campaign parameters.

A Search campaign is configured with the Google Display Network enabled, allowing ads to be served across display inventory that is not part of the approved media plan. The rule detects the network setting and flags the configuration.

Account Budget

Evaluates active setups to verify they are mapped to an allocated Account Budget possessing a valid end date aligned to the close of the current month.

A campaign is launched without being assigned to a valid account budget with the authorized monthly account funding ceiling, preventing the campaign from following the expected funding structure. The rule detects the missing or invalid budget assignment and triggers an alert.

Daily Budget Confirmation

Requests a verification confirmation alert whenever a brand-new daily budget cap is configured or when a setup switches from a lifetime to a daily budget mode.

A campaign is configured with a new daily budget after switching from a lifetime budget setup. The daily budget is set significantly higher than intended, and this rule triggers a confirmation alert before the campaign begins spending.

Geo 1 Country

Performs an automated safety scan upon campaign saving to guarantee the setup is not left with an empty geographic targeting profile.

A campaign is configured without any geographic targeting, allowing ads to be eligible for delivery across unintended locations. The rule detects the empty location configuration and flags the setup before the campaign is activated.

Presence Rule

Scans targeting options to automatically enforce "Presence" as the required location evaluation criteria for both targeted and excluded spaces.

A campaign is configured to target users who have shown interest in a location instead of users who are physically present there, resulting in broader geographic delivery than intended. The rule detects the location option and flags the configuration.
