TikTok Standard Rule Catalog
The table below outlines each rule's scope, alert conditions, and real-life scenarios. For information on the Standard Rules, refer to the Rule Catalog table below.
RULE NAME | RULE DESCRIPTION | PRACTICAL EXAMPLE |
Budget Rule | Ensures the campaign budget is within the usual range for the ad account to prevent unintended overspending caused by unusual budget settings. | A campaign is configured accidentally with a daily budget of €10,000 instead of €100. The campaign spends significantly more than intended before the mistake is noticed. |
Budget Type Rule | Ensures the campaign uses the usual budget type (daily or lifetime) according to the account's standard configuration. | A campaign intended to use a Lifetime Budget is mistakenly created with a Daily Budget, causing spending to occur much faster than planned. |
Geo-Targeting Rule | Ensures that campaigns target only the approved countries or regions configured for the ad account. | While duplicating a campaign, Italy is accidentally selected instead of Germany as a geo-targeting, causing ads to reach the wrong audience and reducing campaign performance. |
Language Rule | Ensures that the campaign targets only the approved languages for the ad account. | A campaign intended for German-speaking customers is accidentally configured to target Spanish, resulting in ads being shown to users who are unlikely to engage. |
Page ID Rule | Ensures that the approved TikTok account identity is associated with the ad to prevent campaigns from running under the wrong brand. | A campaign is configured to use the TikTok account for Brand A instead of Brand B, causing the ads to display the wrong business identity. |
Pixel ID Rule | Ensures that the approved TikTok Pixel is used so campaign performance is attributed and optimized correctly. | An outdated, incorrect or unusual Pixel ID is selected during setup, causing conversions to be tracked in the wrong account and producing inaccurate reporting. |
Unusual URL Rule | Ensures that ads direct users only to approved website domains associated with the account. | A campaign is accidentally configured with an incorrect or unrelated URL for the creative, leading clicking users to the wrong landing page. |
Broken URL Rule (404) | Regularly checks whether the landing page remains accessible after the campaign is published to prevent traffic from being sent to broken pages. | A landing page is misconfigured or removed entirely, causing users who click on the live ad to arrive at a '404 Page Not Found' error. |
Delivery Type Rule | Ensures that the ad group uses the usual delivery method to ensure campaigns spend their budgets according to the intended pacing strategy. | An ad group intended to use Standard Delivery is accidentally configured with an accelerated delivery method, causing the budget to be spent much earlier than expected. |
Pacing Time Rule | Monitors campaign pacing to identify when the available budget is being consumed significantly faster than usual. | A campaign planned to run for 30 days spends most of its budget within the first week because the pacing configuration allows delivery too quickly. |
